During calls, the speaker on the iPhone8 keeps turning off, I have to tap speaker icon to hear the call hands-free again. Still happening all through ios 15 versions and now in iOS 16.1.2. When hands free, I always miss part of the conversation until I pick up the phone again and tap the speaker icon.

Report this to Apple:
Do your part: Let Apple know what is going on here. Provide them with feedback on this. They may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they received on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in updates to come.

Do your Part: Report this issue to Apple. If many people are getting this issue, yet there is no fix as of yet, then not enough people have reported it. See my above reply for more on reporting this.
The hardware is function fine. The problem was identical on the iPhone8 Plus that replaced the one I am using now. The problem has also been identical through all iteration of iOS 14, and 15, and now 16.2.1. Both the usual speaker and the hands-free speaker are functioning normally and the volume is fine. The problem is that 2-3 minutes into each hands-free call, the sound switches from hands-free to NOT hands-free. I can hear the call if I pick up the phone, and when I tap the speaker icon again, the call switches back to hands-free and proceeds normally.
I’m having the same issue on my iPhone SE (2nd Gen).
When I’m on a call and speakerphone is enabled, it randomly shuts off during the call. My phone is updated to iOS 16.2.
I’ve looked into this practically everywhere and nothing seems to help.
