Siri won’t send text

iOS 16.1.2 iPhone 11

Since updating to iOS 16, Siri won’t send text messages anymore. Every time I try to send a text message, Siri says: Messenger hasn’t added support for that with Siri. I don’t want to use Messenger. I have never had trouble sending text messages with Siri before. Can you help?

Thank you for your reply but I am using the Messages app on iPhone 11. I used to be able to use Siri to send messages. I would just ask Siri to text someone and dictate the message. However since updating to iOS 16, when I try to ask Siri to send a text, or a text message, or using the messages app - however I phrase it, I get the same response: “Siri can’t use messenger.” I don’t want to use messenger. Are you able to help? Thanks Tina

Hello TinaNZ,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. So we can clarify, are you having this trouble using the Messages app on your iPhone? Or are you using a third-party app like FaceBook Messenger? If so, we suggest updating the Messenger app you are using to help with this issue. The steps to do so are listed in the Apple Support article:

How to manually update apps on your Apple device - Apple Support

How to manually update apps on your iPhone or iPad
1.Open the App Store.
2.Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
3.Scroll to see pending updates and release notes. Tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All.

Let us know if this helps, or if you're having a different issue.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks for getting back to us, TinaNZ. It’s appreciated.

Do you have Facebook Messenger installed on your iPhone? If so, does removing and readding it allow Siri to send text messages? Remove apps from iPhone - Apple Support and Get apps in the App Store on iPhone - Apple Support

If not, please work through the following steps found at the bottom of this article: If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If you still need help
• Try to restart your iPhone or iPad.
• Check your network connection. To send a message as iMessage or MMS, you need a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection. To send an SMS message, you need cellular network connection. If you turn on Wi-Fi Calling, you can send SMS messages over Wi-Fi.
• Check with your carrier to see if the type of message you’re trying to send, like MMS or SMS, is supported.
• If you’re trying to send group MMS messages on an iPhone, go to Settings > Messages and turn on MMS Messaging. If you don't see an option to turn on MMS Messaging or Group Messaging on your iPhone, then your carrier might not support this feature.
• Make sure that your device has enough space to receive images and videos.
• Make sure that you entered the correct phone number or email address for the contact.

Please let us know the results when you're able.

All the best.
