I have one of those and want to pass it on but cannot find how to reset it to factory settings. All the instructions I find are using iTunes, but the newer OS’ all have the Music application on them. I did not find a version of iTunes that runs on my OS (12.6.1) so I am lost.
I also read the online version of the manual, and this too talks about needing iTunes.
Any suggestions how to do this?

Is all correct and I knew this. But how to restore factory settings under OS12 is not covered.

Sorry, that I did not mention the option to connect in recovery mode, as explained in this article, Step 4:

This should also work under macOS12
I had seen this before but I do not get a window that allows this in the finder. I however just found an article saying this happens and one needs to just disconnect and connect a number of times and it will work. Will try that later,.

Since there are both an iPod nano 7th generation, and an iPod touch 7th generation, we need to know what you actually have in order to troubleshoot effectively.

I am sorry if my sense of humour does not land with you.
Got it to work by plugging it in and out 6 times. In the end it did recognised it and it gave me the reset window. Thanks for your help folks.
