Move Files only copies in Files App

While on ipad os 15.1 and now 16.1 when using the Files App, it shows the option to MOVE a file, but it only copies it, not moves it.

Basically Move File is acting the same as Copy File.

In Files App:

Right-click a file to get the drop down menu. (I have a mouse attached)

Choose MOVE

It pops up a window for the destination, but oddly it says COPY here, not MOVE.

So you still have to go back to the original directory and manually delete the old file after you've tried to move it.

Is there a fix?

Hello Jayfcpx,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

The Files app should give you several options to organize your files and folders (Copy, Duplicate, Move, Delete, Rename, or Compress).

Please note that you cannot create a folder in all locations, and some move options may not be available depending on the file type.

You can open this Apple Support article to learn more: Organize files and folders in Files on iPad. If you are noticing unexpected behavior after checking the instructions above, please contact Apple Support for more help.

Cheers!
