But, if you have emptied the Trash and have no Time Machine backups, then the files are permanently gone. If you do have Time Machine backups, then use /Applications/Time Machine to recover the deleted Numbers documents prior to the deletion timeframe.

Have you looked in the Trash?

You should be able to select the deleted Numbers file there, control click and choose Put Back.

Then now is the time that go to Time Machine (or whatever backup system you are using) and restore from there. If you aren’t using a backup system then now is the time to start!
