Screen dims in direct sunlight

My XR dims when I’m outside in direct sunlight. I’ve turned off true tone, auto brightness, dark mode, reduce white point and night shift. I’ve turned the phone on and off. I’ve visited the genius’s, who suggest it’s not a software issue and that I should pay to update my phone (not in warranty). Anyone know what’s going on?

Hello Brevisgreen,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

You’ve done a lot already to find a solution for your iPhone. To continue, something to consider is that the display may dim if the temperature of your iPhone exceeds normal operating ranges.

You may also notice slower charging, lower signal strength, and slower app performance when your device is too warm. You can find more information on this topic in the following support article: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support

If you notice the same behavior when your device is not directly in the sunlight, please contact Apple Support for more help.

Cheers!
