"Save to Files" now takes me to "iCloud Drive" instead of letting me choose between that and "On My iPhone"

Before iOS 16 if I wanted to "Save to Files", I was taken to a screen from which I could choose "iCloud Drive" or "On My iPhone". But now I'm taken directly into iCloud Drive. If I want to save the file to my iPhone, I have to hit back screen to see the "On My iPhone" option. Is there any way to change this back?

iPhone SE, iOS 16

Hello dfb1904,

If you wish to always save to 'On My iPhone', then you may try the following:

  1. Select the Share button in an app
  2. Tap Save to Files
  3. Tap the back button to head to the Browse screen
  4. Select the (...) button
  5. Tap on Edit
  6. Toggle off iCloud Drive, and tap on Done

If you'd like to provide feedback regarding the Files app to Apple you may use the dedicated feedback site here: Product Feedback - Apple

On the page it'll help to note, "We read all feedback carefully, but we are unable to respond to each submission individually."

Cheers.

There are certain things I like to save to each, so the pre-iOS 16 way was perfect. I would Save to Files > Browse > On My iPhone, then I would Save to Files > Browse > iCloud Drive. I do like the option you've presented - saving to iPhone is the more important option for me, so I may set it that way. But with now having to bypass Browse, it would be nice if we could keep both destinations activated and choose a default. Unfortunately if both are active, iCloud Drive is always the default...at least from what I can make of it.
