The Home Screen dots at the bottom of the screen -now only ever shows 3 dots, you never really know where you 'are', it was fine before.. now it doesn't communicate anything.

The dots at the bottom of the Home Screen used to easily show you how many screens of apps you had, clearly showing you which screen you are on.

Now it only ever shows 3 screens.. even when swiping between screens.. So, you never really know what screen you are on.

Hey there Cris,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. Just to clarify, when you have more than three pages of apps on your Home Screen, you're only able to see three dots at the bottom of the Home Screen, and the dots don't become highlighted when switching between pages, is that correct?

If so, does this issue persist after restarting your iPhone? If unsure, give that a try with the steps shown here: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later
1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

While restarting may seem like a simple step, it can often help with resolving some unexpected issues like this.

Keep us updated on the results, and if still having issues let us know which iOS version you're working with. This can be found in Settings > General > About.

Take care!

Thanks for your reply,

Restarting my phone didn't help.

The three dots are highlighted and animate etc, but the same issue continues ; i.e. if I have 7 pages, and I move between screens, it only ever shows 3 dots, so I cannot tell where I am, on previous software when I swiped between screens, it would clearly show a dot to represent each screen, clearly showing which page I was on.

It seems to be something that is intentionally programmed.

I wonder if there's a setting somewhere that I've missed ?

Cris Blyth,

Since you continue to experience that unexpected behavior, let's use the steps below to make sure your iPhone is up to date:

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

You can also find those steps in this resource: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support Updating should help to further isolate a potential software conflict.

Should that still persist, or if your iPhone is already up to date, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support: Contact - Official Apple Support They'll be in the best position to look into this behavior further.

Take care.
