Pages (v12.2.1) not responding upon launching any document

Dear all,

It's been almost two months now that Pages is crashing/not responding when launching a new (or already saved) document. The program loads, the document is visible but goes into a not responding mode. Only if I shut down the computer and go to Safe Mode will the document work. I also tried moving the file "com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist" to the desktop but that didn't change anything. I also tried to turn off iCloud so that the app avoids synching, but again, it didn't help.

I work on an M1 iMac with Ventura 13.0.1

Anyone that could help me, please?

Thanks!

I am running Pages v12.2.1 (and earlier) on Ventura 13.0.1 on a M1 mini and it never crashes. Wonders never cease.

I suggest you do the following in escalating order:

  1. Press and hold the shift key while launching Pages to prevent it from loading its last saved execution state. This is normally performed only after it hangs, crashes, or is force quit.
  2. Access Pages documents on your local drive, not on third-party cloud services to see if normal behavior resumes. Attempting to open a Pages document on Google Drive, or MS Windows will trash it. Pages documents saved to One Drive are automatically encrypted and cannot be accessed by Pages until they have passed through the One Drive app to unencrypt them.
  3. Boot into Safe Boot Mode which checks the local drive, removes System cache files, and rebuilds the System font database. Try Pages in this mode, and after a normal reboot, try Pages again to confirm it is working correctly.

Thank you so much for your input VikingOSX. I really appreciate it.

  1. I have done this but it doesn't really work. I mean it worked once but then, the next time the app crushed and I tried to do it, it didn't do anything.
  2. Also tried it, nothing changes!
  3. It's the only thing that works but it's really annoying having to boot your mac in safe mode every time you need to work on Pages. Because once I have teh issue, I do it, I work on a document but then I need to restart my mac so I can use other functions that safe mode doesn't provide. And then I have the same issue with Pages.

I have to say that issue escalated, three months ago it wasn't an everyday thing. Now, every time that I try to open a document, the app goes to a non-responsive mode. Once I open the document the rainbow cyrcle starts rotating, for an instance it stops (there you can see that the document tries to function) and then goes to an everlasting rotation again...

Annoying!

You should not be using any anti-virus or so-called cleaning app with macOS as it can interfere with normal operating system and Mac application behavior.

I am uncertain about other approaches that will fix what you are reporting unless the Pages document, or the document that you are attempting to open have been damaged. I would move Pages to the Trash, and empty the Trash, then reinstall it from the Mac App Store. Try Pages without the document you have opened in the past that causes the issues.

Well, here's what I've been trying the past 3 days:

I turn off the wi-fi, I open the pages documents and it doesn't crush or doesn't go in non-responsive mode.

I work for some time, I save the document and then I turn on the wifi an dcontinue working . I don't know why but so far it worked!

Until of course it won't :)

Thank you for the feedback.
