can you install spotify app on watch using the family member setup

The more I research this the more convinced I am the this is not possible unless the Watch user is paired to their OWN iphone and has a suitable Spotify account.

Twitter users can send a DM to @SpotifyCares for help but their answer to me was the iphone needs to be signed into the Spotify account but could not answer why the app was not visible to install.

I'm afraid I must disagree - NO 3rd Party Apps (whatsapp, teamsnap, etc.) are available for my daughter's apple watch. She has a spotify account of her own. They won't let the app on it. If you know of a way to allow this, please let me know. I cannot find it anywhere, and I have seen a version of this question in multiple discussion groups on Apple - all say - get your kid their own phone, too. This is why we got the watch in lieu of the phone.

I disagree, any non-apple third party apps are locked out of the family member's watch - this includes what's app and TeamSnap which are needed for my daughter's sports activity communications. This is an apple, lockdown issue.

Whatsapp for example do not make an app for ANY Apple Watch. (Don't know the others you mentioned). Apple can't invent one, although they do offer basic notification for when the Watch owner has their own iphone.

Yes Apple are rughr, get them their own iphone or accept limited accessibility for some apps. Whatsapp still will not work though.

Apple doesn't own Spotify. You have your statement backwards. Spotify needs to read this and make this work for Family Setup. In the meantime, since Apple doesn't own Spotify and can't change their software, you might want to consider using Apple Music. Since you clearly have multiple users on your account, an Apple One Account might prove very beneficial to you. It provides Apple Music to multiple users, 200GB of iCloud Storage, Games included and even Apple TV all in one $21.95/month subscription.

First install Spotify on your iphone.

If it can run on the Watch you will have the option to install it from there.

Take care that such streaming apps don't eat all her cellular plan when away from wi-fi.

I’m not sure but I think you need to pair the watch with your phone and set up Spotify onto that watch. If it’s already there reload it while it’s paired to your phone. You can have multiple watches paired to your phone simultaneously. Just make sure you keep them in order. Then you can unpair it for your daughter to use on WiFi.

If Spotify is installed in the controlling iPhone it should be available in the My Watch tab of the Watch app

I have same problem. Trying to install Spotify on my daughter’s new watch. She doesn’t have iPhone. This is so stupid that Spotify forced to have an iPhone to install the app on the watch!

Nonsense. Spotify don't want to dilute their money making by allowing sharing in this way. Until they allow their app to share on a family setup Watch, Apple can do nothing.
