Update for ipad mini 2 software version 12.5.5

I have been trying to update the software of my iPad mini 2. The current version it is at is 12.5.5. When trying to update it an error comes up "An error occured while checking for a software update." I tried to do the update via computer (windows) and it will not let me. Has this happened to anyone else? How can I fix it? Some apps will not run because they require the most current ISO update.

Failed iPadOS 18.3 update on 7th generation iPad My iPad is currently on software version 14.8.1 and the only update I have available is iPadOS 18.3 and this keeps failing saying it’s unable to install the update. My iPad is 7th generation so it might not be compatible with iPadOS 18 but i’m hoping there’s a way to update it from iPadOS 14 to a newer software if iPadOS is incompatible. I’m really hoping there’s an answer to this as most apps won’t work as they need a later version to update. [Re-Titled by Moderator]
