CarPlay issue with playing podcasts on Spotify

I have an iPhone 12 running ios 16, which I connect through CarPlay on my BMW X3. I use Spotify as my primary app for both music and podcasts. A strange thing started happening a month or so ago, whereby when I am listening to a podcast, it will jump to a recent song that I was listening to. I go back to the podcast, it might play for 2 or 3 minutes, then bang - back to some random song. I don't know if this is a CarPlay issue or a Spotify issue - I have no problem listening to podcasts on Spotify normally, this only happens when connected to CarPlay. Anyone experience anything like this, or have any idea where the problem might be?

To further isolate this behavior, testing other apps to see if this behavior is persistent would be advised. If you use a different app to play podcasts in your car does this continue to happen? If not, then that would suggest the issue may be isolated to the Spotify app and working with the developer would be the next step. How to contact an app developer outlines how to contact them if necessary.

If the behavior continues with other apps, a good next step would be to text with another vehicle or device if possible to see if this may be isolated to your car radio instead. If so, it may be possible to update the software for that radio to ensure compatibility with iOS 16. Please also ensure your iPhone 12 is running the latest software by following Update your iPhone or iPad.
