Command Line Tools for Xcode-14.1 repeatedly shows up in Software Update

The subject line about says it all. I have downloaded and installed this update several times, but I see this every day in my System Preferences:

After clicking to install the update, including agreeing to the terms, it downloads and then ends up saying The update package has been deleted since being downloaded from the Apple Software Update server:

I don't use Xcode frequently, but I have opened it to see if that matters.

Also I have tried

softwareupdate -i "Command Line Tools for Xcode-14.1"

from the command line. It yielded an error, too:

Software Update Tool

Finding available software

Downloading Command Line Tools for Xcode
Downloaded Command Line Tools for Xcode
Done.

Error installing updates.

Any ideas on how to keep the Software Update red badge from recurring and recurring!?

Hi kevinashworth,

For help with the software update, test running the update again while booted to safe mode. The steps found in the article here can assist if needed. How to use safe mode on your Mac

"How to use safe mode

Determine whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:

Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

Additionally, if you have any third-party antivirus software enabled test the download while temporarily disabling.

Cheers.
