iOS 16.1.2 and Airdrop

I installed iOS 16.1.2 this morning and now I don't seem to be able to get Airdrop from my iPhone to my Mac working. On my phone I just see "Waiting" slowly flashing. Is there a chance these are related? I've checked that they're on the same network and bluetooth is on and the content and privacy restrictions...

OK, One more clue. I can send files from my Mac to my iPhone. Just not the other way.

Airdrop is so handy, I'm at a loss without it.

Hello JimV315,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you're able to AirDrop from your Mac to your iPhone, but can't locate the Mac from your iPhone to AirDrop, correct?

We understand how useful this can be, so let's see if we can help to isolate what's occurring to clear it up.

For starters, can you confirm that you have the latest macOS version installed on your Mac? We'd like to be sure this isn't related to what's occurring since your Mac can locate the iPhone, but not the other way around. If an update is available, let's be sure you have a recent backup of your Mac before continuing with the installation. The steps below will help with updating, and you can find additional steps here: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

Use Software Update

Before installing new software, it's a good idea to back up your Mac.

1. From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen:

• Choose System Settings. Then click General in the sidebar, and Software Update on the right.

• Or choose System Preferences. Then click Software Update.

2. If Software Update finds new software, click the Update Now or Upgrade Now button to install it.

3. Enter your administrator password, if asked. During installation, your Mac might restart, and you might see a progress bar or blank screen several times.

If Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, then no new software is currently available for your Mac model. Software Update shows only updates and upgrades that are compatible with your Mac.

If you have the latest macOS version installed already, let's see if the connection may be blocked by a firewall with your Mac. To check if this is enabled, take a look at the following resource. The steps to check this can vary depending on the latest supported macOS version: Block connections to your Mac with a firewall - Apple Support

If you still can't get this to work correctly, be sure to restart both devices once more. Should that still not clear this up, contact Apple Support directly to check into this in more detail.

Have a great day!
