Macbook Pro 2017 Brightness level not changing

I recently purchased a 2017 macbook pro 8gb 256gb (MacBookPro14,2) and have noticed that while using macOS the brightness levels will not change. I have no option for auto brightness in my system settings and no access to the brightness slider in the control panel, as it seems to have greyed out. the slider on the touch bar works, however it does not change the actual level of brightness on the display. when adjusting using the touch bar slider, the brightness pop-up appears on the screen to indicate a brightness level change, but after sliding the level resets to the maximum setting, with no change in brightness. i have installed bootcamp windows 10 on this device and have found out that there are no issues changing brightness on windows, so it seems to be a macOS only issue. the only solution i have found is to use lunar to lower the gamma of the display, however power usage remains the same, and it is really affecting the battery life of the system.

Below is the greyed out brightness slider:

in an attempt to repair via software, as this seems to be a software issue, i have updated software and even upgraded to Ventura, and i am still having the issue.

Any responses will be appreciated, as i am unaware of any other steps to go to fix this issue, i have reset NVRAM and this has had no effect. thanks

Hello Fmgs2016,

For this issue, we'd recommend reviewing the following: Change your Mac display’s brightness - Apple Support

Change your Mac display’s brightness

You can adjust the display’s brightness manually or automatically.

Use the brightness function keys

If the screen seems too light or too dark, you can adjust your display’s brightness.

- On your Mac, press the increase brightness key  or the decrease brightness key  (or use the Control Strip).

Automatically adjust brightness

1. If your Mac has an ambient light sensor, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

2. Turn on “Automatically adjust brightness” on the right.

If you don’t see the “Automatically adjust brightness” option, you can manually adjust the brightness.

Manually adjust brightness
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

2. Drag the Brightness slider on the right to adjust the brightness of your display.

Depending on the type of display connected to your Mac, you may also see a Contrast slider that you can use to adjust the display’s contrast.

For specific information about the brightness of your display, check the documentation that came with your display.

If you follow these steps to adjust the brightness on your display, but it doesn't work, then it would be best to contact Apple directly: Apple Support

They'll need to take it from here.

Wishing you well, take care.
