iOS 16.1.2 taking up too much storage

I’ve been having tons of storage issues with my phone for a long time now. I finally deleted everything and erased all content & settings. I have no apps, no photos, and a basically brand new phone with my only my Apple ID logged in. Before I updated iOS I was using 14 gigs of storage. I updated to iOS 16.1.2 & I now have an entire category to manage in my iPhone storage settings called “iOS 16.1.2” & it takes up over 3 gigs of storage. On top of that, my iPhone is now using over 21 gigs of storage leaving me with near nothing for photos, videos, or even apps. What is going on & how can I fix these continuous storage issues?

Hello Juss1234,

If iOS 16.1.2 is showing in the list at Settings > General > iPhone storage, then this could indicate that it may be downloaded but not yet installed. To double-check the installed version try heading to Settings > General > About, and it'll list the iOS version here.

If the update happened to not have installed yet, this page can help with the process, if needed: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly
1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.
