2nd gen appleTV lost remote

We lost our remote. In the past, I used the iPhone remote to control, but recent upgrades have replaced the former remote with another remote requiring a 4-digit code to be input to pair phone/pad to AppleTV, but how do I access a keyboard to enter a code? Everything on the screen is grayed out and cannot be used? Even Apple support could not have a solution. Using all current updates on iPhone 13 and iPad

The software remote in Control Center is compatible with Apple TV (3rd generation or later). Even then you need a functional remote to set it up (to enter the code). Both devices have to be already on the same home network.

For Apple TV (2nd generation) (A1378, 2010), your only option is to buy a replacement remote. Apple stopped selling the old style remotes, but some third party resellers may still have a few of them.
