Safari memory usage

One single YouTube.com tab opened in Safari consumes about 11.5 GB of RAM, the page stops responding/freezes in the end (I cannot type anything in a search field nor click on any video). Tested with Firefox and it takes about 500 MB only. What is going on? MacBook Air M1 8 256 MacOS Ventura.

Hello ntnshvkn,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you. Have you tried clearing your browsing history, cookies, and website data to see if that improves Safari performance? If not, it's a good place to start.

If you continue to experience issues, testing to see if the issue persists while booted up into safe mode is recommended. With this process, safe mode will prevent your Mac from loading some startup items, login items and system extensions. It also performs a check of your system similar to First Aid. Once you've tested in safe mode, reboot your Mac and test again after a normal startup.

Best regards.
