Old computer and portable drive not compatable with new computer. How can I transfer files?

I'm assuming that you have done/are doing a backup of your old computer with Time Machine.... you could use MIgration Assistant, after you have backed up everything you want to save and transfer to your new computer.... otherwise you might be able to network them together...this link explains how to do it over Ethernet, and it's from Apple.....https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/mac-help/mchlp1413/mac
