Hey there martijnsanderse,
Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities to get help with your external display. To get started troubleshooting, we would recommend verifying that no settings have been inadvertently changed since you updated. You can do this by following the steps outlined in the Apple Support resource Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support.
Once you have confirmed everything is still set up as it should be, the next step is to actively troubleshoot the issue. We can do this with the guidance from the Apple Support article If your Mac display doesn’t look right - Apple Support.
To further isolate the issue, we can also suggest the following steps, if you have not already tried them. The results of the next steps will allow us to choose the next best steps should the above recommendations not resolve your issue:
- Quit any open apps: Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support
- Restart your Mac: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support
- Boot into safe mode. While display anomalies are expected once booted to safe mode, it performs a check on your system during startup and makes repairs where it can. This might resolve the issue: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
- See if the issue continues while in a new user account: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support. This will tell us if there is something occurring across the macOS system as a whole, or if the display issue is related to something specific to your user account.
Don't hesitate to respond back if the issue continues.
Cheers!
