Screen time restrictions not working

I’ve set up my daughters screen time restrictions to not play explicit content. Yet when you open the Apple Music app, it does not work at all. All content is available to listen to. It worked a month ago but I caught her listening to very inappropriate music. I don’t want to block the app, but if it’s not going to work then I’ll have no choice. I’ve gone to screen time:content and privacy restrictions: content restrictions: set it to clean and turned off music profiles. Everything else is set to PG and clean. Seems to work in other areas but not in Apple Music.

Update: what I ended up doing was completely deactivating screen time, restarting the phone, then setting it all back up again. The phone was up to date. I think the update made it go a little “wonky” and had to be set up again. Thanks for the help! 😊

Hi Fribbiss,

Regarding settings restrictions to not allow explicit content it sounds like you've checked the correct settings. The steps below found in the article here can confirm: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

"Prevent explicit content and content ratings

You can also prevent the playback of music with explicit content and movies or TV shows with specific ratings. Apps also have ratings that can be configured using content restrictions.

To restrict explicit content and content ratings:

  1. Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions, then tap Content Restrictions.
  3. Choose the settings that you want for each feature or setting under Allowed Store Content.

Here are the types of content that you can restrict:

  • Music, Podcasts, News, Fitness: Prevent the playback of music, music videos, podcasts, news, and workouts containing explicit content"
