My wife erased all data of her 2014 I-Pad. She then wanted to do a factory reset. When she tried to start with the "Hello" greetings in English she did not know passcode. Putting in wrong codes caused the device to lock up.

My wife erased all data from her 2014 iPad to use again. She tried to do a factory reset. When starting with the "Hello" greeting in English, she forgot her passcode. After entering several wrong ones, the device locked up and we could not access it for certain times. We also tried to connect to iTunes on her desktop Mac...but the iPad didn't show up. I've watched many videos on fixes but none has worked. How can we open and restore this I-pad without a passcode or I-tunes? Thank you. - VirginiaArtist

Hi there VirginiaArtist,

If your wife's iPad is disabled after entering the incorrect passcode too many times, you'll need to use a computer to put it in recovery mode and erase it:

If you can’t remember your passcode when you try again, you need to use a computer to put your iPad in recovery mode. This process deletes your data and settings, including your passcode, giving you access to set up your iPad again.
After you erase your iPad, you can restore your data and settings from backup. If you didn't back up your iPad, you can set it up as a new device and then download any data that you have in iCloud.

Keeping that information in mind, you'll want to follow the steps in the exact order they appear in this support article to put the iPad in recovery mode to erase and restore it: If you forgot your iPad passcode - Apple Support

Take care.
