Disappearing Emails after trying to Drag and Drop

I selected a group of emails from my inbox and tried to drag and drop into a new mailbox, but they have disappeared - no longer in inbox, or new mailbox, or junk etc

I have tried to rebuild my inbox but the emails have not come back, and I am unsure where they have gone (they have also been removed when I check my phone)

Greetings Chloe3112,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. You've completed some great troubleshooting steps so far. We'd like to provide you with a few additional steps that may help to recover your emails:

• If you use more than one email account in Mail, make sure you’re looking at messages for the correct account.
• If you sorted messages, they may be in the list but not in the order you expect.
• If the missing emails are from a specific person or group, check whether you blocked messages from them.
• If you use rules, they may have moved messages to other mailboxes. Try searching for the messages.
• Check the account’s Recovered Messages mailbox, if available in the Mail sidebar.
• Quit Mail, then reopen it.

If you set up Time Machine to back up files on your Mac, you can use the backups to restore content that Mail downloaded (based on options set in Mail and on your Mac). See Restore items backed up with Time Machine.

Let us know if this helps.

All the best!
