Where is itunes on OS 11.7.1

I don't see iTunes in OS 11.7.1? Is it just Music now? If so how do I transfer the music from my iPhone 14 to Music?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

Hi dnorth12,

While music can be synced from a computer to an iPhone, the reverse option is not possible. If you have tracks that were not purchased from the iTunes Store, they should have existed on a computer to be transferred in the past. Upgrading would not itself impact that iTunes Library. If you are unable to access your previous music, you can try these steps from Switch libraries with the Apple Music app in macOS:

"How to switch iTunes libraries

  1. Press and hold the Option key, then open the Apple Music app.
  2. In the window that appears, click Choose Library.
  3. Select the iTunes library that you want to switch to.
  4. Click Choose."

If you still cannot access those tracks, use Apple Support to connect with AppleCare to investigate further.

Regards.

Thanks for reaching out dnorth12,

It sounds like you have some questions about how music is handled on your MacBook Pro since updating to macOS Big Sur. We can help.

A great resource you can check out is What happened to iTunes? and explains how to use your media going forward and sync using Finder.

Hope that helps.

Take care.

Good afternoon dnorth12,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

All of the music that you had in your iTunes library (music you purchased and downloaded, or imported from CDs) would still be on your computer after updating the operating system. When you open the Music app on your Mac, in the Library section, you can choose to view your music by Artists, Albums, or Songs. What do you see there?

Listen to music and more in the Apple Music app

If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can also turn on Sync Library to access your music library across all of your devices.

What happened to iTunes?

"Upgrade your iTunes library

With macOS Catalina, your music, videos, podcasts, and audiobooks are organized in to their own dedicated apps — the Apple Music app, Apple TV app, Apple Podcasts app, and Apple Books app.

After you update to macOS Catalina, just open the Apple Music app or Apple TV app to use your iTunes library in the new apps. Have multiple iTunes libraries? Learn how to switch between them in macOS Catalina.

If you open the Apple Podcasts app or Apple Books app first, you won't see any of your media until you open the Apple Music app or Apple TV app.

Here are some things to know

The Apple Music app and Apple TV app read the contents of your iTunes library — so don't delete your iTunes library."

Please reply to this thread and we'll do our best to help you!

Take care.

Sorry, back again. I was able to transfer all iTunes purchased music from my iPhone to the Music app on the laptop. But am unable to find a way to transfer all other music to the laptop.

FYI: I have set up a volume and am currently running Catalina on it. I will upgrade later to the higher OS when I get this figured out.

So any ideas on how to get all other songs onto the laptop?

I am not sure this applies in this scenario,

"All of the music that you had in your iTunes library (music you purchased and downloaded, or imported from CDs) would still be on your computer after updating the operating system."

I have the laptop set up with Mojave and the volume set up with Catalina. I didn't upgrade Mojave to Catalina, just a separate volume/start up disk.

Only the songs that I purchased through the iTunes/Music store show up in Catalina.

I can see my iPhone in the sidebar but not able to drag the songs from the iPhone to the Catalina Music app.

The reason I am doing this is because my iPad with 16.1.1 just beeps when I try to connect it to Mojave, not so with Catalina. But my iPhone with the same IOS does not beep it just connects.

Hopefully that explains it a little better than previously.

I solved my problem by simply updating the OS on hard drive to Big Sur. But created another problem. Big Sur created a new hard drive and moved my original hard drive to system/volumes/hard drive. I can't copy the files on the original hard drive to the new hard drive. So I have to dig down to see the files. Now what?
