iPhone - Block Potential Spam Calls But Not "Unknown Callers"?

I am inundated with calls identified by Apple as "potential spam" calls. I would like to block them all. But to do so I have to turn on "Silence Unknown Callers". "Unknown Callers" are sometimes my doctor or a business person I am waiting to hear from but not in my Contacts List. I DON'T want to block these. Is there a way to do this?

iPhone XR, iOS 16

I don't think Apple is the one identifying callers as 'potential spam'.. That's likely your carrier.

To do what you are asking, may need to see if your carrier has an app.

I have AT&T, they have an app called ActiveArmor that more or less does what you say. If the call is flagged as Spam, then my phone doesn't ring and it'll be listed in the call log within that app. You can also report numbers.

I did not want to turn on Silence Unknown Callers for similar reasons as you. So I've had to rely on AT&T's filters. It's not perfect, but it's something.

Thanks, that wasn’t clear to me.  Super helpful.

FYI, Verizon wants $3.99/mo for this “service” to solve a problem they’ve created with a VOIP system where calls are unidentifiable and free.  One million robocalls cost the same as 10,000, AFAIK.

If I could levy a modest toll (2 cents?) on any incoming call not in my contacts list, AND retroactively refund any charge levied on a call/voicemail it turned out I DID want to receive (doctor’s office, repairman), spam calls would disappear.  I would be happy to split this fee with Verizon.  (End of rant.)
