When you add a Volume to the APFS container, does the new Volume show up on the desktop as if it were a drive (that is, with an icon)? If not, where does a new Volume get mounted and will an Alias work for redirection from another location?

Yes, that’s what I posted earlier. But I notice I also missed when you posted /System/Volumes. I don’t remembered seeing that at the time.
checked the mount points in Disk Utility and when I saw each of the mount points, I realized that /Volumes had to be a hidden folder.
It doesn’t show up in Finder, but it is in Go > Computer.
I just checked my /System/Volumes folder and the only item there is iMac HD even though I have that plus a 2nd partition on that physical drive; plus 3 external drives mounted (all of which show on my desktop). Am I looking in the wrong place?
(One note ... my current system is running Catalina; but I am installing a new iMac with Monterey, hence my question about Volumes. I understand there may be a possibility that Catalina may show items in /Volumes differently than Monterey.)

I checked the mount points in Disk Utility and when I saw each of the mount points, I realized that /Volumes had to be a hidden folder.
When I tried Go > /Volumes, all my disks & volumes show up there.
So, if my Finder Preferences say to show hard disks on the desktop, the new Volume will show up there, same as any ordinary HDD or SSD would?
It should show up wherever you have drives set to show up.
Volumes will mount to /Volumes, just like an external drive or network share.
It should. I have nothing on my Desktop, but a Volume shows up under Locations in the Sidebar and Go > Computer. I can't think of any other place they show up.
