Hello anjit |,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

What is the exact wording of the message that is asking you to enter your password? The reason we ask is, it may not be asking for your user profile. It may be asking for the password to your Apple ID. It could also be asking for a password to a third party app that needs to sign in.

If the prompt mentions a keychain password, follow the information found here: If your Mac keeps asking for your keychain password - Apple Support

Kindest regards.

Hello anjit,

Thank you for that screenshot. Where are you seeing this message? That will help us determine next steps.

Can you use your Mac password to login to the computer or make changes? If so, have you recently changed that password? If so, let's try restarting as that will refresh everything: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

If you haven't let's try changing the password, and restarting: Change the login password on Mac

You can use the same password, we just want to see if refreshing this helps.

Cheers!

Hi anjit,

Does the same occur if you start your Mac up in safe mode? Safe mode prevents certain software and items from starting up and also does a basic check of your startup disk. This will help isolate this issue a bit and determine if there may be something in your user preventing you for being able to sign in.

If you are using a Mac with an intel processor,

1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

Check out: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the response.

  1. I can log in with my Mac Password, no problem at all.
  2. I get an alert in my Settings App that I have to log in first with my Apple ID and password and then with my Mac Password.
  3. Apple ID and Password work fine but when I input the same Mac Password that I had used to log in, it fails.
  4. Have reset the default keychain, restarted the Mac and the same two alerts pop up in the settings, I go through the same iteration again and still cannot log in with the Mac Password.
  5. I am pretty tech savvy but this has me stumped.

Thanks for looking at it.
