Can Numbers sort alphabetically

Yes.

Text data is automatically sorted alphabetically when you select a column and choose an ascending sort or a descending sort.

Numeric data and quasi numeric data (eg. date and time or duration values) are automatically sorted numerically using the same choices.

Mixed data places the ascending sorted numerical data first, followed by the text data.
