Pages 12.2 Copy Style / Paste Style Not Working

The Pages user guide lists the following as one option in using the copy style command.

    • Place the insertion point in the text with the style you want to copy. Everything that you would see if you were to begin typing at the insertion point is copied. That includes any paragraph style, character style, and style overrides applied to that text.

This has always worked for me in the past, but has stopped working. I can place the insertion point as described, but the copy style command is greyed out (deactivated) within the menu.

If one selects at least one or two characters, the command activates and works. But, one more step and more awkward.

I went by the local Apple Store, and tried a display model. It worked as advertised. I've deleted the Pages app and reinstalled, but with no success.

Any ideas?

So, may have solved this. I returned to the Apple Store to double check, and the computer there was on Pages 12.1. My Mac is 12.2. So, I think that the behavior of the program may have changed with the update. I'm not sure how this can be considered an improvement though. What did not change was the help file, which I had quoted in my original post. It is now incorrect for 12.2 and needs to be updated, if that was truly the intent of the update.
