WIFI necessary to run Keynote?

Is it true, the Keynote app can only be run from iCloud? I often have bad to no internet access, and so now it appears I can no longer run the Keynote app because it will only run from iCloud???? Really? Can't I download the app to my computer? I have a 2018 powerbook and running Ventura 13.0.1 OS.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 13.0

Keynote for Mac is a standalone application for the Mac, it does not require an internet connection to be able to use it. It is installed from the Mac App Store: Keynote - Apple

Keynote for iCloud is the online version which runs on the web browser and requires an internet connection.

As you need to replace Keynote and not update, I suggest you follow this procedure to uninstall Keynote completely, then download Keynote from the Mac App Store:

  • complete all of the following steps in the order listed
  • ensure you have a current backup of all your user files, saved to a separate drive
  • close all applications
  • uninstall Keynote; for this procedure to work, an application removal tool must be used, App Delete has a free trial and works for this procedure. It can be downloaded from the developer’s website here:  App Delete
  • empty the Trash (Finder > Empty Trash)
  • restart the Mac (Apple Menu > Restart);  Immediately after the Apple startup sound, press the shift key on the keyboard, release shift when the Apple icon appears. Start up will take longer than usual as the Mac is performing a software repair of the start up drive
  • After the Mac is fully powered up, restart the Mac normally:   Apple Menu > Restart
  • reinstall Keynote from the Mac App Store Application
  • Restart the Mac again

If you have a version of Keynote stored on iCloud, delete it.

Gary, thank you for your reply, but I can't seem to download it to my computer. My old Keynote app was "non responsive", and I couldn't open it. So I went to the apple store and downloaded a new Keynote. But it would only download to my iCloud. I can't get it to download to my computer.

When I click on the link you provided above, it knows I've downloaded it, so it doesn't give me the download option again, only an "open" option, and I can only open it on iCloud, IF I have an internet connection. Otherwise, I just can't run it at all. I tried dragging the app from iCloud to my computer hard drive, but that didn't work. Any other ideas?
