Removing Photos From Photo Albums on iPhone 12

I am having trouble removing photos from albums. Sometimes I can do it by opening the album, hitting the photo I want to delete, hitting the trash can and then hitting "Remove from Album."

The problem is, this doesn't always work. When I do that with some photos and hit the trash can, the dropdown menu does not contain the option to "Remove from Album." The only option is "Delete Photo" and it tells me the photo will be "Deleted from iCloud photos" on all my devices and I am afraid to hit that because I am afraid that means the photo will also be deleted from my iPhone Library and I don't want to do that. All I want to do is take the photo out of that particular album.

Why am I able to remove photos from an album in some instances but not others?

Hi pdmike,

It seems you're having some trouble with Photos and we can help.

You're taking the right steps to manage your albums from the sounds of it.

You'll want to make sure that you're viewing the photos or videos in the corresponding album you want them to be removed from:

  1. Go to Photos
  2. Tap Albums at the bottom
  3. Tap the Album you want to remove content from
  4. Tap the photo or video you would like to remove
  5. Tap the trash can and the remove from Album option.

If you're in an album such as Recents or all photos you'll not have an option to remove it from the album, only to delete it. That should get those removed
