Voice Memos all gone after update from iOS 11 to iOS 15.7.1

I’m literally crying as I’m typing this, and this is not an exaggeration.

This is years worth of voice memos that were stored locally on that iPhone and also on iCloud - emphasis on the iCloud part. I’m pretty sure there wasn’t even a specific selector for Voice Memos.

I used iCloud to backup everything and now after opening the app, they are ALL GONE.

I opened my iCloud only to find a folder with Voice Memos that I had manually backed up to it some of them.

I’m super angry and frustrated by this. Everything works flawlessly on this new iOS, why is the ONE THING that I didn’t recently backup to a Mac has been completely wiped?

PLEASE tell me Voice Memos are locally stored on the device or on the full iCloud backup that I can open on a Mac in the future. I didn’t restore the device, I didn’t delete any file, I simply updated from iOS 11.1.1 to iOS 15.7.1.

Ok, here is the good news: I went into the iPhone storage menu and it displays the following:

App Size 1,6 MB

Documents & Data 1,86 GB

Voice Memos 3,3 MB

In other words, everything is apparently there, but it’s not displaying these voice memos on the app itself.

iCloud backup was turned on up until yesterday evening, and out of fear of a new backup overwriting what is there, I simply turned it off a couple minutes ago. Did I make a mistake? Should I turn it back on? Or should I leave it off? If I turn it back on, will it overwrite what I have inside the phone? Or should I just turn off the Voice Memos selector?

As you can tell, I’m in desperate mode right now. Any help is more than appreciated.
