How do you keep the AOD ALWAYS ON?

I keep my iPhone 14 Pro in a charging stand at night next to my bed. I want to use the supposedly AOD as a nightstand clock. Unfortunately I have found that during the night it goes blank. How do you actually keep the AOD ALWAYS ON? As it is it is more accurately described as a SOD (Sometimes On Display).

Hey there mjwags1,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We're happy to provide some assistance.

It can be normal for your Always-On display to go dark. Take a look under the "Always-On display goes dark when you don't need it" section here:

Use Always-On display with your iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max - Apple Support

"To save battery life, the display is completely dark when:

    • Your iPhone is lying face down
    • Your iPhone is in your pocket or bag
    • Sleep Focus is on
    • Low Power Mode is on
    • Your iPhone is connected to CarPlay
    • You're using Continuity Camera
    • You haven't used your iPhone for a while (your iPhone learns your activity patterns and turns the display off and on accordingly, including if you set up an alarm or sleep schedule)
    • Your iPhone detects that you moved away from it with a paired Apple Watch (Always-On display will turn on when your Apple Watch is close to your iPhone again)"

Mine used to stay on all night and after updating to iOS 16.1.2 now it shuts off during the night again. It's quite frustrating when you want that feature to work and it does not. *Apple please fix this and make it to where Always on actually STAYS on during the night!* I get that not everyone wants to have it on but give us the option who do want it on!!!!! You've finally added the feature now please let it work by staying on always.

Anyway, I have found a work around but you won't necessarily get your notifications and that's turn your phone off and then turn it back on but don't log in or unlock it, just restart it and put it back on the charger. The 'Always on' will stay on... well, at least it does for my iPhone.

Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:
