Purchased Music in Clips App

Hi, I’ve been using the Clips app more often on iOS 16.1 (20B82)

But I noticed that even when I purchase and download singles/tracks from iTunes Store, and try to import them into a Clips Project, I cannot find the song in the Clips library to choose the song.

How do I know which songs in my Library are available for Clips?

I had a purchased/library song that was embedded fully into a Clip project and worked very well.

And then 2 weeks later when I went to re-watch the clip the song had disappeared and there was no way for me to get it back. Except to try to purchase the song again. But then iTunes store, I couldn’t purchase it because it was already purchased.

Anyway besides the free pre-made Apple provided songs in the App, the importing of purchased songs seems highly unreliable and not clear. Making the Clips app not quite as useful as expected for personalized videos and projects. Thank you for any help on this matter.

Hi K,

I understand DRM, but in my most recent case, I paid for the song downloaded it and then used it in the video (Clips allowed me to download and use it from my library). And 2-3 weeks later when the project was offloaded to iCloud and redownloaded the song was wiped and unable to get it back. So, I don't know what the issue actually is.

I assume if it was DRM with such a popular song it would have forbidden my use of Clips from the onset.

Is there a way to tell which purchased songs cannot be used in Clips or iMovie?

Hello Tomio Toyama,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. The purchased music is likely DRM protected and not available for use other than personal listening. We understand you have feedback about a feature for Apple that you would like recognized. You can leave feedback for them here: Product Feedback - Apple

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hey Tomio Toyama,

Thanks for the update. Depending, it may not be the song specifically, but may be that the song required an internet connection. This article has a little more information about songs that can be used in Clips.

"You can add music from your library or from a selection of included soundtracks." "Note: Some soundtracks may require an internet connection."
