Fake iPhone?

Hello, I had a friend complain that he bought an iPhone from someone he knew and he noticed there was no IMEI number in the settings “about” page. Could this mean it is a fake device?

iPhone X, 15

Are you sure they bought an iPhone? The IMEI number does not identify real from fakes. It identifies cellular devices from non-cellular devices.

All iPhones, all cellular devices including Android phones and cellular tablets must have an IMEI number. The IMEI number is what identifies it as a cellular device that can connect to cellular service providers.

What exactly did they buy? What is the model number found in Settings->General->About->Model?
