OS Sierra - how to erase

I need to erase a iMac before recycling. It is running macOS Sierra 10.12.6

How can i do this as I can't find anything on erasing....

To erase an iMac before recycling, see the instructions in What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac - Apple Support

Skip item 2 in that article as it only applies to newer Macs; the other steps will have erase instructions.
