Calls fail when I try to merge two phone calls

  1. I make a phone call on my iPhone SE2020 (iOS 16.1.1) and speak to the recipient.
  2. I then try to add a second call (using the "+" button) - that works and I'm speaking to the second person.
  3. I then ask the iPhone to merge both calls using the merge button.

At that point, both calls are dropped with a 'fail' message..

So I can't have more than one other person on any call; I used to be able to this with no problem.

How can I fix this?

Conference call is a cellular carrier specific service/feature.

See this specific support page:--> How to make a conference call from your iPhone - Apple Support, then contact your carrier.
