Is FaceTime free if abroad

Basically, as long as your internet connection is free (be it wifi or a cellular internet data connection) then FaceTime is free. Apple doesn’t charge anything for FaceTime, but if your internet connection provider charges for data, then there would be fees from them for that data connection.

This is how I understand it ... am no expert, and have no reliable source of info. on this to recommend.

FaceTime itself is always free to use with Apple.

Both parties need a strong internet connection ... can be within internet plan with a wi-fi provider.

For FaceTime to a phone number, you may use cellular for the initial connection, (secs) until wi-fi takes over

If you need to use cellular to use FaceTime :

eg: may be needed totally in some countries / and / or no internet available

Then charges would be up to your plan with your cellular provider
