First letter typed in some apps does not type

Since the Ventura update, I've noticed that the first letter I type into the content area of my mail app does not type. After the first letter, everything is okay. I've become aware of this here and there in some other apps too, but I'm not fully sure what places it doesn't type have in common.

I should mention that this is not an issue with Mac Mail. A little while back, I switched to Airmail to manage my email since I was experiencing performance issues with Mac Mail. But it does appear to be an issue with Ventura.

Is this a Ventura bug? Any recommendations? I just spent a lot of money on new Apple equipment, and it's so frustrating when such a fundamental bug dominates the user experience.

Same here. First letter I type into a new Mail in Airmail simply doesn't show up. But this happens only in Airmail – I didn't notice this in any other app – so it might be an Airmail problem...

My system is a Mac Studio M1 Ultra running Ventura 13.0.1 and Airmail 5.5.7

Does it happen also if you start your mac invSafe Mode?

If it does not happen in Safe Mode (as I expect), then it will point to a problem with some third party software modification.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here.

Use the “additional text” button and paste the report into the text box.

Additional note: I've already checked the culprits mentioned in previous posts on this topic. Those posts were generally very old, and did not seem relevant to the current problem so I created a new thread.

Here's what I've checked:

• Slow keys is not enabled

• Sticky keys is not enabled

• Accessibility Keyboard is not enabled

• Key repeat delay is set to the 2nd-shortest setting

• Key repeat rate is set to the 2nd-fastest setting

Equipment:

• MacBook Pro (2021 16") with Apple M1 Max chip

• OS13.0 (Ventura)

• Airmail 5.5.6 (though I don't think this is an Airmail issue in particular)

• Bluetooth magic keyboard (plugged in, since bluetooth has connection issues sometimes)
