Changing Apple ID to iCloud address

Ten years or more since this was last raised in these forums, the problem has NOT been resolved. Clearly, Apple is not interested in resolving the problem.

To make matters worse, I have added my iCloud address as an alias, but Apple is STILL sending email to the old address, and NOT to the alias. I cannot close down the old account while this situation continues.

I also noted that if an Apple ID is a mobile number, it can be changed without argument. Why the difference?

Apple should note that a refusal/failure to update personal details when requested is a breach of Australian privacy legislation. Do I have to refer this matter to the Australian Information Commissioner?

(And many thanks for expiring the first session while I was composing this message. Anyone would think you don't want feedback.)

If you see a message that the email address you want to use isn't available or is already in use, check that you or a family member aren't already using that email address with a different Apple ID. If a family member is using that email address, remove it from their account then try to use it.

In some countries or regions, you can use your phone number as your Apple ID. But if your Apple ID is an email address, you can't change it to a phone number.
