Quicktime Screen Recording Audio Garbled

Since 2015 I've used the same 2015 MacBook Pro - but only with this recent macOS Monterey upgrade have I encountered severe problems using Quicktime's Screen Recording. I've used this feature for many years - often to record notes on how to operate software (like settings and whatnot). The Screen Record works - but the audio is often VERY chopped up (almost as if I were talking through a spinning fan blade).

It's too bad. Apple computers once ran really smooth and I would tout how much better an Apple computer was compared to Microsoft Windows. That gap has significantly narrowed.

Hi silver_mica,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. Since QuickTime has been working until now, it may be best to start by eliminating other components to make sure the issue is isolated to your Mac. For instance, does this happen when you record any certain apps or have certain programs open? Do you have any external devices such as a hard drive, microphone, etc. connected? If so, disconnect those and test again.

Next, try in safe mode. Since safe mode will prevent some apps and software from loading, testing there might isolate further. Below guidance is from How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support.

"Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

Proceed depending on your results using the same article above.

Best of luck.
