Cannot approve purchase for child

My son wants minecraft on the ipad I just made for him and it won't let me purchase it for him. The flow goes like this:


Purchase on his ipad

Approve on my computer

Then before it starts downloading, it says "Payment information is required", "You need a method of payment to access this functionality".

I press continue and it send me to manage payments... and the only thing I can do is go back because payment methods are not allowed for 8 years olds...

To confirm, have you verified the payment information associated to your Apple ID? The reason we ask is due to the error you're seeing, it's a good indication it may be related to your payment details. If you're using a Mac, you can follow the steps listed below to verify your payment information. These steps along with steps for verifying your payment information via iTunes on Mac or PC can be found in the following article.


  1. "Open the App Store.
  2. Click your name. If your name doesn't appear, click the Sign In button, sign in with your Apple ID, then click your name.
  3. Click Account Settings.
  4. Next to Payment Information, click Manage Payments. (If you're using an older version of macOS, click Edit next to Payment Type.)
  5. Click Add Payment.
  6. Enter the payment method details, then click Done."
