ventura m4v files wont import

After upgrading to Os Ventura, I can't add m4v videos to MUSIC. Does anyone have the same problem?

I used to do this on a regular basis every day with the same programs (apps) and never had a problem.

Hello and thanks for your response,

I can add mp4 files to the library by File > Add To Library or File > Import. But the M4V Files won't import and won't appear on the MUSIC Library. Basically all of my non purchased music , I been importing it this way, the problem is since I updated to Ventura OS it won't import them or they don't appear on my Library.

I really don't get whats change, M4v It was supposed to be the Apple TV format and it was compatible. Or apple format and never had any trouble with it.

Regards

Am new to the community model, so please pardon any breaches of etiquette. I also upgraded to Ventura and noticed one of my .m4v music videos was no longer in the music videos playlist (along with other unnecessary changes). It still remained in my song library and would play when clicked but no longer in any of the playlists featuring music videos. It was resolved once reopened in iMovie, then exported the new file (to the desktop). The new file was then compressed and exchanged with the current file. It reappeared without any interruption to playlists or counts. The update will read on the date modified under the file tab when get info is selected. NOTE: the updated file is .mp4 video file.

I (also a music video enthusiast) wish your music video collection a speedy recovery!

Hello CineMaster,

Let's start off by checking the helpful steps in this article which can help with this issue: Import music from a computer to Music on Mac. This article explains: "If you have songs or music video files on your computer, you can import them into Music so they appear in your music library." Follow these steps:

"In the Music app  on your Mac, choose File > Add To Library or File > Import.
If you selected “Copy files to Music Media folder when adding to library” in Files settings, you see File > Import.
Locate a file or folder, then click Open.
If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
Tip: You can also drag a file or folder from the Finder to the Music window to import it.

By default, Music places a copy of each audio file in the Music folder (Home/Music/Music) and leaves the original file in the current location. For information about adding an alias to the file (instead of creating a copy), see Change where your music files are stored.

When you import an item by dragging it to the Music window or choosing File > Add To Library or File > Import, a reference (or “pointer”) to the item—not the item itself—is placed in the Music folder. You might not be able to play the song if you move it."

Let us know if we can help with anything else at all or if this doesn't settle your issue so we can look into this further with you. Thanks and have a fabulous day!

Hello CineMaster,

It's good to know you can add other files to the library. To help narrow this down, you mention all your "non purchased music" is what's not importing. Are the files you're trying to add from another device, music videos you downloaded from another source, or somewhere else?

Let's also see if the same behavior happens in a test user account. This can tell us if the issue is only related to your account or system-wide. Here's how to create the account, just in case: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

Keep us posted.

Take care!

Yes they are videos (music, personal) that I converted. I been doing it since I started using iTunes (Music) as my personal music library and never had any problems until I updated to Ventura.

I can add mp4 files to iTunes (Music), but the m4v files that are supposed to be the best supported Apple TV files so I can play them on my music room won't get imported. Never had any problems and I imported more than 5,000 files and play them well on my Apple TV, Mac, iPad and iPhone. Now the new files that I converted as always won't import as I always did. (since my Ventura update).

I don't know what to do anymore. I tried so many things and none of them work. I been wondering if there is like a tab to push or a function that is blocking them so I can import them as before.
