Adding an external hd to Mac mini

I want to know if you can add an external hd and have the photos app recognize it as the place to save all photos an videos, just so the wife can free up some space on the mini. Thanks for any replies

hard drive storage Can you add hard drive storage to imac2021 , 24 inch. Also can you create a way to only store photo's in the cloud not both on the computer and in the cloud?

will the Photos application work normally if located on an external SSD drive` Due to the limited internal memory of the new iMacs I am running out of space as I move old files to the new iMac. I'm wondering if I could use my Samsung T5 or T7 SSD to hold the Photos application and photos. I will use another external drive for backups.

Yes, you can use an external drive to store a Photos library.
