Since I have updated to Ventura, my HP scanner (8600) will not save the scan except as a bank page. Any ideas? (ie the scanner works, the image appears in the "scan" window as normal, but when I try to save it or send it, there is only a blank page. Many thanks

Are you using HP's scanning app or Image Capture?
Have you tried updating the driver, either HP's software or the ICA driver (Image Capture Architecture)?
Is it an All-in-One or a scanner? I only found an AIO, and HP has an Easy Start app.
Thanks Barney. Mine is an AIO, but the Easy Start did not help. I believe we need to wait for HP to release a patch, however in the meantime I can work with Image Capture I have discovered - a bit clunky but it gets the job done.
Waiting for a patch could be an open-ended experience. Just for giggles, why not download the trial of VueScan Professional which supports the OfficeJet 8600 without any HP or Apple software/drivers required. If VueScan works with your scanner and generates expected PDF results, then that may be enough to justify its purchase (or not). Certainly gives you vendor independence.
I don't have an HP scanner, but do have a flatbed scanner that Canon abandoned prior to my 2010 VueScan Professional purchase. I have used this ancient scanner on every release of macOS (including Ventura) since that purchase date and have never paid an update/upgrade fee in twelve years to the VueScan vendor. I receive nothing for mentioning VueScan here.
Until a patch comes along, 'Save As PDF-searchable' does the job. Bigger file size, but better than blank!
using easy scan - only solution is to scan document as normal - then click print - then "save as pdf"
when you do that is saves properly and not as a blank document
