We have 2 Apple TV boxes (one older, one a new 4K), and are also paying $4.99 a month for the Apple TV+ subscription. Is there any benefit to having the subscription if you already have the Apple TV boxes? If so, what? Thanks in advance.

The Apple TV+ subscription provides access to Apple's TV+ streaming service.
Without the subscription, you cannot access that content. Doesn't matter if you are using the Apple TV app on a 3rd party device or are using Apple TV boxes directly. You need that subscription to access that content.
