Not able to reinstall max osx on MacBook Pro 2016 after disk erase

Hi, I am trying to reinstall mac osx on my MacBook Pro 2016.


I followed apples instructions to erase the disk using dis utility. Now I am trying to do internet recovery and it is saying “permission denied” when I try to install on “Macintosh Hd”.


any help would be appreciated.

that is probably Apple APFS media ....



it will be the TOP item of the group, not indented.


'MacOS Base System' is the name used for the Internet recovery built-in software, about 2GB in size. It can not be erased.

Your drive is formatted as Apple File System, and your 'Macintosh HD' Volume is inside a container-disk.


You are trying to install 10.12 Sierra, which does not understand Apple File System for the Boot drive.


Be sure to ERASE the entire Physical Device by its immutable manufacturer-given device-name, not just user created Volume-name such as ‘Macintosh HD’.


Your new Volume should be MacOS Extended (journaled), likely the default for ERASE in High Sierra.
