icloud storage confusion

A few days ago I was using my phone's camera and received a message of some kind saying my iCloud backup was full and the photos couldn't be stored. I didn't have time right then to address it. Later I deleted some photos, and on my MacBook I deleted some documents from iCloud, since they might have been shared on the phone. Just now I looked at iCloud storage in the phone's settings, and it says I've only used 1.5 gb out of 5. Could deleting a few photos make that much difference? Is everything OK now, or should I follow some of the suggestions on the support site about iCloud storage issues?

Hello NJM55,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you. Without knowing the number of photos, along with quality settings, and number of documents and their sizes, it would be hard to say what type of impact this had to your iCloud storage. Do you utilize iCloud Photos or just the iCloud backup feature? If you do use iCloud Photos, have you visited the iCloud website to see if the photos you recently took, synced?
