For the past couple of months, I'm noticing that every time I open up a photo folder on my 27" iMac, it goes to the bottom. Also, randomly I'll find the folders at the bottom or some other place. This is so frustrating.
I share these photos/folders on my IPadPro, MacBook Pro, Apple 14 Max Pro. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.

The defiant sort order on new albums is by date - oldest first. You can set the sort order via the View ➙ Sort menu. The following screenshot describes the sort order for the various views/items in the library:

OT--I love the idea of a "defiant sort order"
I think the author means that the album pops to the bottom of the album list in the sidebar. I've had smart albums that I kept near the top do the same thing, but not often enough to get mad or figure out any patters. Interestingly, the author is running Ventura, and I'm still with Monterey.
When you get one of those you have to slap it down to show them who's boss.
