Document aliases on Dock - icon changed in Ventura

Hello,

Warning : this post refers to document *aliases* (not the document itself) added to the dock

Prior to Ventura if I put a document *alias* in the dock, the icon on the dock showed the application used to create the document.

After Ventura, the icon on the dock is a ugly generic one that does not show the application used to create the document.

Would like to get confirmation of this (unwelcome) change in Ventura.

Thanks beforehand.

P.S. : Do not ask me why I need to put document *aliases* in the dock (instead of the document itself). I have very good reasons to do that.

Yes there are reports of third party app/ alias's not reflecting properly...so do not feel alone here.

I would simply wait for a macOS point update and see if it resolves your issue

or

wait for third party update to resolve the issue.

Many thanks for the info.

I am curious to know if what you added was a document or an *alias* of the document (right-click on the document > Make Alias). Adding documents works fine on my computer. It is when I add an *alias* of the document that I have seen the problem occur.

And BTW yes I did try with several documents of several different types (PDF, EXCEL, TextEdit, among others).

Thanks again.

Ok, I see what you mean, but... WHY would you make an alias and add that to the Dock.

You know, you can't actually add a document to the Dock: when you do that, you actually add an alias.

So in your case you are creating an alias to an alias to a document.

The effect of clicking that "alias of alias" in the Dock is that the original document will open, via a double indirection, just as if you had dragged the document itself in the first place...

Ok, thanks again.

In my original post I have tried my best to avoid people spending time on what was NOT the problem. Your reply shows that my efforts were largely insufficient and I apologize for that. And, again, I have very good reasons to add an alias of a document to the dock (which, indeed, is an alias of an alias, you are right). Those reasons are a bit difficult to explain and my trying to state them would only confuse the issue. Also, the thing has worked for years and years across every new version of macOS, the mis-behaviour manifested itself only recently with Ventura.

Thanks once again for the time you spent on this.
